Our Approach

Our commitment to you is to treat and manage your pain and symptoms effectively through identifying and addressing the underlying cause of the problem, thus minimising the risk of recurrence. We aim to help our patients recover fully with one to one treatment and a self management program. In most cases we not only return our patients to full fitness, but ensure they are in a better physical state than before injury.

Our outstanding clinical reasoning skills help us determine the most effective treatment for you, taking into consideration your goals. We use hands on treatment which covers joint mobilisation, manipulation and soft tissue mobilisation and instrument assisted soft tissue release. We are trained in kineso taping (K- taping) in addition to more traditional sports and postural taping methods. We are qualified in traditional Chinese acupuncture and dry needling techniques. We use electrotherapy modalities such as therapeutic ultrasound if it is clinically indicated.

Each patient is given an individualised rehabilitation and exercise program tailored to their specific needs.

Where necessary, we will advise you on when it is appropriate to involve other medical professionals, such as orthopaedic consultants, sports injury physicians and podiatrists and facilitate this referral where possible. We will always communicate with your GP at the end of a course of treatment, unless you would rather we didn’t.

Environmental Awareness

We are an eco-friendly practice and aspire to minimise the carbon footprint of our business.  We are mindful of the impact of the environment on a person’s health and think about how our business impacts the environment.  We use locally sourced organic products wherever possible and make use of renewable energy sources such as locally generated solar power, biomass installations and electricity powered by wind turbines. We use paperless technologies wherever possible and recycle any scrap paper, plastic or cardboard.  In addition wherever possible we use low powered LED lighting.

“Patricia seemed to get to the bottom of my problem just after taking the history. I had seen many professionals and was almost resigned to the fact that my running days were over. She gave me a really thorough explanation of why I was in pain and how we could get to the root of the problem. She even gave me some new research to read, and links to really useful sites online. I am back on the road and feeling great with an increased understanding of how my body works and what I need to do to keep myself injury free!”

I owe a massive debt of gratitude to Fran at the Rowans Physiotherapy Practice.  In summer 2015 having dragged my 49-year-old body back into the gruelling rigours of 400M athletics training after 12 years off. I picked up injuries that threatened my chances of competing in 2016.  Through Fran’s hands-on treatment and very clear guidance and direction on exercises, I managed to achieve two major shifts in muscle development and balance really quickly.  I recovered well, gained strength and finished the 2015 season showing promise and consolidated this in 2016. In March 2017 I achieved my goal of being a national medal holder, taking bronze in the British Masters indoor national championships.   Fran’s temperament, patience and skills are such an asset.  No trade-off needed; you get ‘really lovely person’ and ‘highly skilled and technically competent’ all in the same individual.  What a bargain!
